I can't really explain how much I connected with this book. It has been and will be a catalyst for change in my life.

Edit: After being prompted by Ben I came up with this short explanation as to how I connected with this book and thought I should put it on the main page.

I mainly connected with the simple lifestyles described in the book. I guess it describes the kind of life I want for myself and my family in the way of minimal material possesions and an intentional mindfulness about spiritual issues. It seems so foreign to read about people living life, together, simply, standing outside the norms and expectations of society. I connected with being a part of a community where I am free to think and do, climbing a mountain, sleeping outside, finding a quiet place in the woods to meditate, freeing myself from the numbing addiction to entertainment and so much more.

Man I want to be there every day. I am going to start planning (financialy) for early next year. Will that work for you?

Ben, The Dharma Bums is the first Kerouac book I have read.

Thanks for prompting me to write that.

I love what you said about "numbing addiction to entertainment". It's so true. Sometimes I need to be freed from that.

A simplified life (not a dumbed down one) would be a definite benefit. Sounds like a fascinating book and something that I might look into. I know I feel the need to just slow down, get rid of the clutter, and enjoy the life God wants for me.
