Extra time has been precious and scarce lately and when recreation creeps up on me no thought has been given to visiting this site. I guess that’s a good thing but at the same time it’s somewhat depressing.
A few Sundays ago I went to a concert with friends thanks to my brother who bought me a ticket. He was going for Gillian Welch and I was going for Bright Eyes and all were blown away by David Rawlings. I just didn’t expect to be blown away by Rawlings because frankly I had never heard of him before that concert. Rawlings and Welch doing their version of Johnny and June’s “Jackson" was the highlight of the night for me. The Bright Eyes set was equally fantastic and I can’t stop singing “Clairaudients (Kill or Be Killed)” over and over in my head…
Corporate or Colonial
The Movement is unstoppable
Like the body of a centerfold it spreads
To the counter-culture copyright
Get your revolution at a lower price
Or make believe and throw the fight, play dead
It’s exploding bags, aerosol cans
Southbound buses, Peter Pan
They left it up to us again
I thought you knew the drill
It’s kill or be killed
Future Markets, Holy Wars
Been tried ten thousand times before
If you think that God is keeping score, Hooray!
For the freedom-fighting simulcast (Victory! A defeat! Victory!)
The imminent and the aftermath
Draw another bloody bath to drain
Like the polar icecaps centrifuge (Oh Allah! Oh Jesus please!)
First snowman built at the end of June
He slicks his hair for the interview, his fifteen-minute fame
Would you agree times have changed?
The Gathering is over in New Albany and now I spend most days at the bike shop selling people things they should use more but inevitably end up collecting dust in their garage like every other thing they needed yesterday.
In a couple of weeks we will be in our new home in Newark. We are ready for the transition to be over, our goodbye here has been extended far too long.
time, dust...an extended farewell

Glad to hear the concert went well. Hope the move to Newark goes well!
D.B., you write a lot of lyrics on here, but I have been with you four days in the past week & a half and have not heard you sing ONE WORD. Bring on the singing Dave. Bring it on brother. Bring it on.
Also... I honestly can't wait for this transition to be complete for you as well. Long transitions = painful transitions for everyone involved. It is like hanging out with your ex-girlfriend, everyday, for a couple of months after the break-up, when you know you aren't getting back together again, because you have already found another girlfriend, who you just can't be with yet, and now she has a new boyfriend she can't be with yet!
I have been there... not as long as this... but I have been there... and it sucks.
aww. "Lucky!" Bright Eyes rocks. Sounds like a great evening, and I'm happy for New Albany's loss. I mean... at least the pastor didn't ask you to leave... that's worse.
