pains, strains and automobiles

I have tried to stay away from talking about myself too much here because honestly I don’t think I could say much about myself that would be very interesting. The most interesting thing about me is the people I meet so I try to share some of those stories. However this past week has been a whirlwind and if only for the sake of my own sanity, I need a way to release. Anyone who reads this probably reads James’ blog as well and read about our visit last week. Looking back, that visit got me through the events of the week’s end and the beginning of this week. In my last post I alluded to the potential firing of one the teachers at the childcare center. Once I returned from my refreshing trip to the bus station with an ex-con I sat down with said teacher and told her that she isn’t a good teacher and it would be best for her to leave immediately. Most of you who know me also know that that is very close to what I actually said which lead to her slamming my door, coming back to throw her timecard at me and then stomping, crying and yelling as she left. This woman is very unstable so I was relieved that she had restrained herself as much as she was able. If anyone is keeping score, that is now two of the three teachers I’ve hired have been fired.
The next day I spent six hours with the toddler class and another three hours with preschoolers. After my first hour with the preschoolers Jenn called and told me that Andrew had fallen on his skates and couldn’t move his arm. This led to Jenn and Andrew spending the next couple of hours at the urgent care where Brooklynn and I met them. Andrew’s arm was put in a splint and sling and the doctor told us he couldn’t tell if it was broken or not. There was another family from our church at the urgent care that night with a girl a little older than Andrew who had injured her arm and the doctor told them the same thing. I guess you don’t really need to know about broken bones to be a doctor in an urgent care.
I showed up to the office early on Monday to get some things done and spend some time in the toddler room because I had a new teacher starting that day. Once I made it into my office to start pushing papers around my desk I realized that I forgot my computer at home. I hopped in the car and started driving home. When I looked in the rear view mirror I saw the dreaded flashing lights of a police car behind me and I also heard the siren which meant that he had probably been there for a short time without me noticing. To make a long story short my Kansas driver’s license was taken away and I was told that unless someone with a valid Ohio driver’s license could come drive my car away it would be impounded. Luckily big brother came to my rescue and dropped me off at the BMV where Jenn, I along with Andrew and Brooklynn (the innocent victims of this story) spent the next two hours working our way through the system. We had to take a written test and Jenn beat me by only missing one question to my two. The next day Jenn took Brooklynn to the doctor to find out that she has strep throat.
Now we have valid Ohio’s driver’s licenses, Andrew’s arm isn’t broken, Brooklynn has returned to school and is no longer contagious and I have a mandatory court date in Whitehall next Thursday. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention that Jenn is pregnant? The bank account is low and life is good.

Congrats on the baby. When me and my wife took the test to get our Ohio licenses she beat me by 3 questions. Me missing 3 her missing none. But to my defense, one of the questions was what happens on your second DUI offense. Since I don't plan on having a first, I really didn't know. Oh well. Hope things pick up, blessings to you and your family.

Freakin' felonious Kansas driver. Serves you right for the time that I broke my big toe and you just stood there going "What's wrong with you?" You'd think breaking your toe while doing a 360 dunk would have elicited a bit more respect and helpfulness. Never mind that it was on a nerf hoop in my room, it was still almost an exact reenactment of Dominique Willkins.

I'm still praying that Jen's got identical twin girls brewing in there! We're breaking out the Martini and Rossi. :-) Love ya,

Bub

nothing like getting kicked when you're down. I just had a similar vehicular experience and had my first court appearance ever for some excessive speed...while on my way to church on a Sunday morning of course! Glad to hear the arm's not broken...our 1st grader just had a cast for 6 weeks not too long ago...not fun for any of us, but especially her. Blessings...
